There were 2 reasons only for the housing problem. 1. Gov't interference in the market gave the banks an excuse to loan to people that could not afford it. 2. People stopped looking at houses as a place to live, and instead saw it as an investment vehicle. However they forgot investments can go down. If you look at a house for $500k and think, that is a nice house, I would like to live there, then buy it. That is the purpose of a house.

Black liquor IS an alternative fuel for which paper companies should get tax credit. Under current law, they can't get it unless they mix it with a fossil fuel. The law should be changed. As for the claim that paper companies are "clearcutting" virgin forests to make their paper--most paper mills, especially in the West, use sawmill waste products and noncommercial wood. There are two sides to this story.
