Pelosi Owes Insurance Company Workers An Apology

Nancy Pelosi seemed to confirm the sentiment held by the painter I overheard in a deli recently lashing out against the insurance companies.

    Reuters reports:

"It's almost immoral what they are doing," Pelosi said to reporters, referring to insurance companies. "Of course they've been immoral all along in how they have treated the people that they insure," she said, adding, "They are the villains. They have been part of the problem in a major way. They are doing everything in their power to stop a public option from happening."

While the insurance companies certainly can be difficult to defend at times, it is completely inappropriate for the Speaker of the House to be labeling any company that employs thousands of hardworking Americans as "villians."

It's hard enough in the corporate world.   Pelosi doesn't need to make people feel bad about their jobs.   99.9% of the people at any company do not set the policies which define the corporation.    She owes workers at these companies an apology.

But it's not immoral for our leaders to (1) create opportunities for citizens to fail (a house for everyone, even of you cannot afford it), (2) create opportunities for money-men to invent "financial instruments" without oversight, (3) pass trillion-dollar stimulus packages without reading any more of it than the parts that provide pork to their constituents, (4) fail to pay income taxes then get rewarded with high-paying federal jobs, (5) pass tax-incentives for south seas islands whose jobs are provided by a company in which her husband owns $7,000,000 worth of stock. Hmmmmmmmm........

I wonder how much of Karen's 401k or other mutual fund holdings have a position owning shares of those evil insurance companies. Until you have purged your portfolio of funds that own shares of insurance companies (pharmaceutical for that matter) - you don't have the right to complain about those companies profits... And Karen - my parents taught me that I could express myself without resorting to gutter talk - too bad yours did not.

It appears from the comments, that some do not understand insurance at all. For those who think insurance is so evil, they should self insure and see how that works. IT WONT.

No apology is needed or expected. This is business for profit.

Insurance companies may not be perfect, but they are far better that trying to pay directly. Karen needs to look at the recent report showing the top five insurance company's profita are far below most companies in the S&P 500. I feel far better about paying insurance companies than I do paying the government.

I don't always agree with you, but this time I believe you are right on target!!! At worst it is a typical elitist comment from someone who has never worked at a low level job doing their best and receiving few rewards! At worst it is comment from someone who has forgotten their roots and what it was like to be in that position. Most corporate and government decisions are made by elitists who are simply feeding their own egos. They somehow turn the butt kissing which they generally used to achieved their position into greater mental abilities which raises them above those around them and ultimately gives them the right to become little dictators or demigods. All to often they forget their roots!!

The Speaker needs someone to blame.....It can't possibly be all the monstrously wasteful government programs that kill competition and soak revenue from state budgets...could it?

Nobody thanks an insurance company for paying for an expensive hospital stay which may cost more than a family could afford and is far more than the family will pay in a lifetime of premiums. I guess "immoral" insurance employees are like "stupid cops".
