Fannie, Freddie Bonuses Hit $210 Million

Story today on government controlled mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac...

WASHINGTON – Mortgage finance giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac plan to pay more than $210 million in bonuses through next year to give workers the incentive to stay in their jobs at the government-controlled companies.

The retention awards for more than 7,600 employees were disclosed in a letter from the companies' regulator released Friday by Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa, the senior Republican on the Senate Finance Committee. The companies paid out nearly $51 million last year, are scheduled to make $146 million in payments this year and $13 million in 2010.

Let's hope protest groups don't organize more bus tours.

The news that Fannie/Freddie are paying retentions bonuses when over 600,000 Americans lost their jobs in March is enough to make me want to puke and puke and puke. Disgusting that Fannie/Freddue who are now owned by the taxpayers are even allowed to pay enployees minimum wages much less a bonus for a job "not well done" is both apalling and repulsive. How about if I quit sending my weekly contribution to the government and pay myself a little retention bonus? Surely, the folks in Congress wouldn't object, would they? After all, I deserve a retention bonus for being a taxpayer. Come on, big boys, this grandma is ready for a fight. Screw the government before it screws you! M Abbott
