Thursday Stories: Stimulus Passes, None in GOP Vote Yes; Brits Aware; Russian & China Bash Us

    Stories I'm watching this Thursday.

Most have to do with the stimulus plan passed by the House.    The bill passed easily but neatly split down party lines.  Not one member of the GOP voted for the plan.   It now moves to the Senate and unless the Republicans can somehow muster a filibuster it will pass easily.

Even with changes to the House version it is very clear as to one thing: what started as a "jobs" plan to get people working again has turned more into a spending plan on entitlement programs, existing projects and to patch the holes in states' budgets.    As the analysis by the New York Times points out this morning, the component once seen as being the job creator - infrastructure - has been scaled back massively.   Much is going to be given in the form of a small tax cut for those making even up to $150,000 (the rich in many parts of the country) and to rebuild "failing" schools.   While Americans try to figure out how to spend that extra $500 bucks per year, Congress and the President should revisit some history: the first stimulus check last summer didn't stimulate, and throwing more money at schools doesn't make our kids smarter or more successful in life.

The problem with all this "Stimulus" is that it leads to FTD's (Financially Transmitted Disease). But wait! Didn't this Stimulus include 355 Million for prevention, etc.? Oh, no; that was the other TD, wasn't it? Or was it? I'm soooo confused.

I heard that ACORN will get millions out of the supposedly 'Stimulus Package' Obama is trying to pass. Is this true? I have not heard any of the TV networks talk about this. If this is true, it is another way the Obama people are trying to manipulate the people in using tax payers money to push the liberal agenda and make sure they stay in power for ever!

Average American

Divisive Democrats! They are doing exactly what the Republicans said they would, spending like we've never seen before. They said Obama had a Trillion dollar spending plan to super size the people's dependence on the National Government thereby creating job security for the democrats. These chuckleheads have no moral qualms about destroying the nation just to ensure their dominance... We can surely look forward to more social engineering programs from the democrats like their "fruitful" Fair Housing Act that has caused the world economic melt down... Wow, the CHANGE we really needed!

Now let us see if the republicans have the balls to filibuster. I hope so but I doubt it. Too bad Lieberman won't join in this filibuster. The senate republicans do not have the balls that the house republicans had. I hate to say I told you so to the messiah lovers and voters for demos, but I told you so. I am going to go on unemployment soon and get my free cobra insurance and medicaid. Why work??? Answer that senate republicans!!!

The key to combatting the problem lies in having Consumers return to buying despite the pessimism due to uncertainty regarding their employment A group who followed the rules were the Seniors who invested their savings in Retirement portfolios. The past few months due to market gyrations, they have lost 30-40% of their portfolio. The quickest solution to the dearth of buying by Consumers is to offer them their lost funds to buy durable goods they want, but feared to buy due to the pessimistic outlook by Economists. Proposal: The individual gets proof from his broker that a loss occurred in 2008 in Retirement Accounts. They would go to a United States Employment Office, where space was furnished for this program. A government employee of the program verifies the loss and the amount. The individual wanted to buy a car, but delayed fearing his economic future. They now go to an Auto Dealer, and an agreement is reached and signed. The agreement is shown to the worker at US Employment office, and a check is provided made out to the Auto Dealer, valid for 45 days. The amount must be less than the amount the Retirement Account lost. The same procedure could be utilized for all durable purchases, Refrigerators, Heating/Air Conditioners, Houses, Retirement Homes, etc. The stocks on hand will be sold, and new merchandise is needed to meet the demand. Production requires purchases of supplies, workers rehired, and immediate effect is optimism regarding the economy future.

a senior who is frightened

What we who are dreading this so called stimulus package need to do is write/email, call our Senators and tell them that they have a responsibility to their consituents and MUST vote NO to this horrible package. It is so full of pork spending and we are all going to end up paying for years. Last I looked we were a proud, hardwork FREE nation. Don't let the Dems turn us into a Socialist society. Take action! We the people need to speak up!!

Once again I'm amazed at the goings on in Wasgington, and the World. I personally believe that the vote today will be the same as yesterdays house vote. Republican's in the senate will unite as one,and cast a unified no vote. This is a good strategy for the "GOP" to take, for this "Bloated Flying Pig" the democrats call a,"Stimulus Package" will crash, and burn! Thus, opening the doors for the republicans to sweep in 2012! Great Read ,Brian,...Thanks
