I find it really funny. I would think Mich would be running like a well oiled machine considering it has had a republican Gov for 35 of the last 50 years!!!!!

Tax breaks to the auto corps is a wonderful idea. Too bad it wasn’t implemented years ago. As a citizen of Michigan I have seen first hand how governor Granholm has mismanaged the state on bugetary issues and tax policy (a typical Democrat). In 2007 she even went along with the Michigan legislature’s tax increase on services, which was later repealed. Hopefully Michiganders will finally wise up and vote for a man like Dick DeVos – a business man who understands the harm excessive government can cause. I fully support his idea to institute a part-time legislature in Michigan. As far as I’m concerned the politicians in Lansing are sucking the state of revenue like a bunch of leaches, holding sessions throughout the year. Let’s drastically cut their salaries and make their stay in Lansing part time. Hopefully these and other measures will help us with our budget problems. As for the bailout, the Big 2 (Chrysler and GM) need to wake up and manage themselves better – for the sake of their workers – before they fly to Washington looking for the tax payers to bail them out. Corporate welfare must cease as well. And, if the UAW can’t go for the sorts of worker contracts like those of Toyota and Honda where workers are making around $45 / hour instead of $70, then maybe they should cease to exist themselves. There’s a reason why the conservative citizens of Michigan (and elsewhere) don’t like them. They line their own pockets by making business more difficult for corps and small businesses alike. If they can’t compromise then they should get out of Michigan altogether! As a 25-year-old I’m appalled at Americans’ willingness for larger government and more regulation. My generation will end up paying for all of this debt, and we’ll be less free because of it. Let business and capitalism work in a smart way, and remove all of the excessive regulation and environmental roadblocks (there are market friendly environmental solutions, you know!). Let’s cut government for a change and vote for people who will defend the Constitution and our freedoms. I’m afraid we’re doing the opposite by electing power-hungry liberals and putting Chicago politicians in the White House.

I agree. They need to cut taxes, and reduce services. The services need to be those that are not essential. There are plenty. Politicians like to cut things like police and fire in order to scare the taxpayers into agreeing to higher taxes.

How to fix our current financial crises? Simple. Yes, really simple. Eliminate capital gains tax for an indefinite period. Change mark to market rules. Mark to market is pulling down asset values at an accelerated rate. Changing the rules would stop the free fall and establish a bottom. Elimination of capital gains will cause enormous amounts of investment capital that is currently in overseas investments to flow into the U.S. We could see, by some estimates, over 10 trillion, yes trillion in new investment. This would make capital available and free up the credit markets. A side benefit would be the rapid increase in value of 401K, pension, and general investment portfolios.

Michigan is run by the extreme left –I mean the Berkely left —why cut taxes –why support businesses —we dont need any stinking businesses in Michigan that are non-union–we have the UAW , and the public teachers union and the city of Detroit –they will all take care of us , cradle to grave!Go Guv.–only a couple more years of pain and suffering , until you can go to your next gig!!!

One in Six jobs in Germany is Auto related… viewed as very necessary industry in that country.Do some research, do you think the Germans are working for peanuts, do you think they have no benefits,do you not know that their vehicles have had very poor reliability reports, but are improving, soon be equal to The Big Three.Do you you think that given the same circumstances, you,d see Germans bad mouthing themselves like Americans have been brainwashed to do,very unlikely.Wake up Americans or you,ll all be living in tents soon, driving around on skate boards, (Japanese made of course)

Why drop taxes on the big three or business….they will just keep pushing business away loose tax revenue and apply for bail out money under the TARP or some other program to fund the state.

It seems so many are confused about basic economics.High taxes discourage business investment.Low corporate taxes encourage investment,job creation and all of the requirements for a thriving economy.That is why automakers are relocating in the south and not expanding in Detroit.When businesses succeed and people are gainfully employed and thus have disposable income,the tax revenues of a state INCREASE because everyone is spending and growing the economy.Governor Granholm doesn’t understand this simple philosophy and thus presides over a dying state left to plead for others to bail it out.Governor,do you want Michigan to thrive and grow?Immediately cut your corporate tax rates and make it too expensive for companies not to do business in your state.

The tax issue in Michigan is a big one. If Jennifer Granholm (an up and coming Democratic star apparently) had had her eye on the ball, she would have worked much harder these past several years to provide tax benefits and incentives for OTHER industries to come to Detroit. Instead, under her leadership, the city and state has continued to crumble. Reducing taxes has been a proven way to encourage business.
