I am not clear about what "spreading the wealth" means. Does it mean that top executives will have fewer swimming pools and middle class people will be able to make their mortgage payments? Does it mean that the millions of people in the US who can't go on a $400,000 retreat with government bailout money can eat better or afford health insurance? In that case, is "spreading the wealth," as opposed to "amassing the wealth" in just a few hands, such a terrible thing? Granted our efforts should be rewarded, but when wealth is ammassed through cutthroat means, cunning, Golden parachutes to executives of failed companies, taking adavanage of others, and wealth at any cost, maybe we should at least rethink those policies that have such a result.

The lack of knowledge comes from our failing public school system. Take a look at what your kids know about American history... Ask anyone who the speaker of the house is or who is the Vice President. - Most don't understand how the basic tax system works. Who really pays the majority of taxes,... and it's NOT the middle class. 80% of the tax revenue is paid by the TOP 20% of income earners. They are dumbing down the education system and not producing people that are logical common sense thinkers. The Democrats are doing this and have been for years. The teachers unions are in bed with the Democrats and our tax dollars that fund public education are getting passed on to the teachers unions from teacher salary union dues. Think about it,. you are paying teachers, they pay the union, and then the union sends helps to elect Democrats that are in line with MORE PAY,. LESS accountability,. smaller class sizes etc,. all of which will create more burden for tax payers and not produce better results. More Money is not the issue,. CUT SPENDING and SPEND what you have. - Some of the best schools are run on the least amount of money per student. IT ALL STARTS WITH EDUCATION - Jason

Brian I cought your news piece from South Carolina last night on Cavuto. Real interesting on the pessimism that CEOs have on the economy. I can tell honestly since I've followed the news media, the liberal New York media made some critical mistakes this election cycle. The biggest mistake commentors, left wing journalist have done is this:they attacked the average joes, first Gov. Palin of Alaska and now Joe the Plumber of Toledo,Ohio. From my perspective if I was a news producer I called these attacks uncalled for and unethical. Even on left wing talk radio Norman Goldman of Los Angeles, who sits fro Ed Schultz often, called Joe "Unamerican." Professionally it shows thier arrogance weakness. A smart journalist would do research. But not bash. Overall those of you in the Business press which I include CNBC,Bloomberg Television haven't attacked anyone. So some of you deserve the awards. Honestly I suspect in the next few years: NBC,CBS,and ABC to fade into the sunset or morph into another form. The audiences aren't paying attention to them anymore. Who knows even the View could fade in time. Last night I started reading Revulionary Wealth by Alvin and Heidi Toffler which they examine the new economy, new wealth and where its going to come from. I just got started on it last night. But they're looking forward and they see the consumer rather the prosumer generating the powershift. Just imagine how a prosumer with a new inoventive idea could shake up the big dinosuar three like Fox Broadcasting did when it debuted twenty years ago.

Dear Arleen I can explain what spreding the wealth is. First year you take it from the rich, the second year from the midlle class and third year everybody is poor.I am not kidding because i experienced it some 40 years ago. Just look at Cuba,Venezuala,North Korea and other countries whih followed this methodology. If you take the money from investors who is going to give you job.Yes for a while you can argue that the government can give you job.Trust me I have studied Marx/Leninism becase I had to.And it is not fan to watch the presidential candidate even thinking about this idea. How wuold you like the government to come to your house and tell you to move into smaller one because they need it for the larger family. What id Obama proposing is the same exept it may take some time to get to that point All what I am asking you to think about it and when you are still comfortable with it then vote Obama.I hope most of us will understand and thik about it. I do not need to thik it over-I have experience it.

"The Gang of Three --Obama, Pelosi and Reid-- are already planning how to spend your money on their friends. Markets are watching the race closely, and a McCain surge now would be the beginning of a huge restoration of confidence in the American commitment to growth."--Hugh Hewitt (10/16/08)

Has the silent majority heard enough? Have they awakened from their sleep? From reading all the posts, I think someone should notify the liberal press that Obama may not be winning this race after all. His comment of "spreading the wealth" may have been the final straw. Americans who get up and go to work every day, pay taxes and watch those who don't,(ex: New Orleans residents after Katrina), sit on their porches and wait for the check to come in, need to speak loudly and clearly on Nov. 4. Get out and vote America and vote for McCain and Palin!!

Welcome to the USSR of O. Read the story of how the bailout is going to triple in cost with NO consequences for the banks. Then sell your stuff and move to the third world.

Thank you Joe the plumber. I hope Obama will always be remembered as Robin Hood. I pray his comments to you will haunt him enough to change his ways. I believe it may be enough to cost him losing his dream of bringing socialism to this country.

I'd like to reply to Arleen. I do not believe that it is the job of government to regulate the number of swimming pools or sizes of houses or number cars or kinds of cars, etc. It is also not the job of the government to regulate salaries or bonuses, etc.; these are matters for the people who govern the companies through boards of directors. Everyone should be able to "amass wealth" to the extent of their abilities and creativity. "Spreading the wealth" or wealth redistribution is just plain wrong.

Dan, If your paperboy is that well paid, then why did I go to college for the mere peanuts that I currently get paid. Most people aren't getting anywhere close to $250000.00 a year. Most of us are getting by on very little.
Carolyn
Amen to Jim in Seneca. The problem with people today is they have never had to fight for anything, let alone care. Life is SO easy. If NObama is elected we can kiss life as we know it goodbye. I pray it won't come to that. Maybe if we all pray, God will spare us. From someone who is PROUD to be American.

Arleen, Please don't confuse what Mr. Obama is suggesting as a way to punish the big corporations for the greed of a few on wall street and in washington. Most of those that were involved on Wall Street are either gone of thier companies are falling apart. There is little that we can do regarding this situation. The best we can hope for is that the FBI can provide enough evidence thru investigations to prosecute some of these CEO's and companies. Washington has already show that it will be protecting its own. I see the Senate and Congress calling in CEO's for questioning, but were are the committees that are investigating the Criminal acts within it's own ranks. What do you think will happen when it is completely Democratic across the board. There will be no one to question anything and no one to stop the Pelosi's and Dodds from doing what ever they want. Regardless of your political affiliations, this cannot be a good scenario for the Average American. There will be no more Checks and Balances. Make no mistake, if Obama's tax plan is put into effect, the larger corporations will just pass the tax burden on to the consumers, and it will be the average middle class american paying his taxes that will once again get the shaft. Remember $250,000 in NY or LA is not alot of Money, plus this is really minimal for small business's. His plan in reality is to take from all those paying taxes from the rich to the middle class and redistribute thier money to those that do not contribute to the system. I don't really understand how anyone can justify this as being a good thing for America. Think about it, it this were your children, you would be telling them, don't worry about it, you don't have to go out and make your own way, We as your parents will fund you forever. Obama is just increasing the class warfare. His view's on taxes, school programs, etc. Are so far to the left, it makes your head spin. He just has a way of saying it to people to make them think they are getting something for nothing, when in reality, almost everyone will end up paying thru thier nose one way or another.

Sen. Obama says he is willing to pay more taxes. There is no law against sending donations to the U.S. Treasury and I am curious as to just how many he and his staffers have sent over the years. I will bet every last drop of my blood he hasn't paid one cent more than what is required. Maybe Warren Buffet and any other liberals that are feeling guilty about their success should sign all of their assests over to the government now if they believe in the good news of socialism. There are no incentives for success in socialist societies. There are however, threats against life and liberty for failure to meet your quota. If you don't perform up to government standards you are sent to a work camp, not camp couch waiting on your Social Security Check. A serious reality check for the entitlement bunch would be to eliminate welfare entirely. This would be sure to drop the unemployment rate. There are jobs being created in America but why work a low paying job if a check comes every month wether you work or not? When was the last time you heard of a Communist/Socialist Nation being on the cutting edge of technology. Yes, I am aware that China has a space program, but the work has already been done for them. I am also aware that the U.S.S.R. beat us in several space races (while millions of their people starved.)

This a gut check, America! Are we really going to let this happen, too? First the 1 trillion dollar bailout when 90 percent of America said NO, That sounds like Taxation without representation. and now this socialistic policy for the next 4 years? This is going to be a rough one. Vote all those creeps out and put term limits on Congressmen. Give them a flat rate for pay like 100,000.00 a year.

October 15, 2008 Obama's Cult "The man has almost no qualifications for the job other than having a sonorous voice and a good stage presence. He seems presidential to 40% of America because they have all “seen the movie”. He has the "President Palmer" (Dennis Haysbert) appeal that they have grown to appreciate over the years of watching 24. If appearing presidential is all that one need to become President of the United States, then Martin Sheen or Dennis Haysbert are just as qualified, actually more because they each have had several years experience pretending to be President and they were so good at it they were paid millions of dollars. It wouldn't make a difference because they are all extreme leftists, but at least we know more about the aforementioned faux Presidents (Sheen and Haysbert). Personally, I would prefer James Earl Jones. He seems to have much more gravitas and seems more circumspect in his movies. You can explain to these enchanted voters that Obama is..." www.BlackJFK.com

Comment by Richie Oct 16th, 2008 at 2:18 am Sullivan said “can any economists out there please let me know if any “bottom up” theories of monetary policy have ever ended up growing an economy?” It was called “The New Deal”, my friend, and President Franklin D. Roosevelt brought us out of the great depression. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Actually, no my freind it did little to boost the economy. Ill be it that it stabalized it some and prevented any further falling (not that there was much further you could go). The thing that actually ended the great depression was this little event we like to call..... World War 2. Due to the huge influx of demand of manufactured goods (militarys around the world) the U.S., which was virtually untouched by the war, had its economy start to boom. look at the facts and figures, and you will see that prior to the outbreak of ww2 the economy was still very poor, but just as it started really going, the U.S. economy soared. In fact, you will really see this out of many wars where the producing countries are relativly untouched by the war (hard to build anything when your factories get destroyed) if you care to look at Japan prior to heavy engagments with the U.S. you will see that its economy was begining to grow and strengthen, same with germany for that matter. And after ww2, the new deal polocies were pretty much discontinued, the economy was booming and world was getting set for the cold war.

can't you just hear the beat of Obama"s words.."Robin Hood,..Robin Hood,..Robin Hood."

We don't need to speculate on the outcome of “bottom up” theories of monetary policy, or wonder if these theories in practice have ever ended up growing an economy? The 20th century alone has numerous living, practical examples of all degrees of socialist societies - more tested examples to choose from than any other time period in world history. Simply pick one that has developed a stronger, more powerful economy than what our current capitalist system has built here in the US. Pick one where the repressed, underpriveledged, disadvantaged people of the world are begging to enter and become citizens - in order for a chance to improve their lives. If that "better" system exists elsewhere, then let's duplicate it here. If not - there is nothing left to discuss on the issue.

WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE? LET SEE THEY WANT TO BITE THE HAND THAT FEEDS THEM. HOW LONG DO YOU THINK IT WILL TAKE FOR ANYONE WITH ANY MONEY TO STOP SUPPORTING THEIR SOCIALIST CAUSE? DO YOU THINK THAT EVERYONE IS GOING TO BE SO GENEROUS TO SUPPORT ALL OF THE NON PROFIT CHARITIES WHEN ANY MONEY THEY HAVE WILL BE TAKEN FROM THEM BY THESE LEFT WING NUTS? BY THE WAY HAVE YOU EVER NOTICED THAT MOST OF THESE LIBERALS ARE COMING FROM OR GOING TO NON PROFITS. THAT WAY THEY REALLY DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT EARNING ANYTHING THEMSELVES, IT'S ALL OTHER PEOPLES MONEY...THESE PEOPLE ARE FUNNELING MONEY TO ALL OF THEIR LIBERAL CAUSES WHEATHER YOU AGREE WITH IT OR NOT. THEY LOVE TO COLLECT MILLIONS OF DOLLARS FROM FOUNDATIONS WITH LIBERALS SERVING AS BOARD MEMBERS. I GUESS THEY THINK IT'S EASY FREE MONEY. WAKE UP AMERICA, THIS IS NOT WHAT MY FATHER AND MY GRANDFATHER FOUGHT FOR. THEY DISRESPECT THE SERVICE OF ALL THAT HAVE SERVED AND GIVEN SO MUCH FOR OUR FREEDOM THAT LETS THESE IDIOTS THRIVE....ANY WEALTH THAT I HAVE WILL NOT BE SENT TO THEM.. THE WELL IS NOW DRY.......

Here comes another Communist (Obama)with his finger on the big red button. between him and Russia they could nuke the world. God help us.

I think Obama's policy is a good one and should be applied to all schools and universities. Those students who make good grades should share with those that make bad grades so everyone can pass, wouldn't that be great.

It is hard for me as a 30 year old to believe ignorance and apathy that has been fostered in this country. Most of the people voting for Obama do not have any idea what this guy stands for, and worse than that, the ones who do know don't care. The comparison of this guy to Robin Hood is incorrect. Robin Hood took from the State and gave to the people. Obama wants to take from you. My wife works everyday with the people Obama wants to "spread the wealth to". I can tell you this. Although his idea of giving to them so they have the same opportunities you had sounds noble, it cannot be achieved. The government has already given many (not all) people who fall into the low income category just enough reasons not to make something of themselves. I could go on for hours about medicare, welfare, W.I.C. and all the other failed government programs that do nothing but enable and encourage people to expect the government to take care of them. Why would any sane individual think it is a good idea to further penalize those who help generate jobs and grow the economy. I can't believe that this guy is even a real consideration for the presidency of the United States of America. HE IS A SOCIALIST. If he is elected it will be a grim turning point in our countries history and I fear the consequences my children will reap. My last point is that, when I was growing up, my parents always told me, "You are known, by the company you keep"...amazing how that no longer applies...

I think you can see the failing of our education system in a few of the responses. I don't care what a CEO makes if he/she is growing the business. I am not a victim and enjoy the opportunity to have my own business or become a CEO. I am offended by pseudo private companies (Fannie ad Freddie) whose CEO's are pals of our politicians from both parties and profit by it. The government produces nothing, creates nothing and profits only by taking from the working person. Every person in this country is responsible for their decisions and must live with them. Our government has created a victim mentality where they would have you believe someone else is responsible for your bad situation. Total manure, you are responsible. Look at Joe the plumber, They have tried to mask Obama's answer by questioning Joe's personal life. The question and answer are valid!!! Let's point that our to our Marxist friends!!
