    "Spreading the Wealth"

Tonight is the last of the three planned Presidential debates.   The economy and taxes will be a major focus.   Much of that debate centers on the supposed "tax cuts for 95%" claim Senator Obama has been pushing.   The Wall Street Journal dissected that claim recently.

Regardless of those numbers, the Senator also may have unwittingly revealed the true plan behind his strategy: take from those who have and give to those who have less.

The New York Post has an interesting story today where the Senator told a successful plumbing business owner in Ohio that he intends to "spread the wealth" around by taxing those who have the nerve to become "rich."

Here's an excerpt from the story and the Post link has the video:

The fracas over Obama's tax plan broke out Sunday outside Toledo when Joe Wurzelbacher approached the candidate.

Wurzelbacher said he planned to become the owner of a small plumbing business that will take in more than the $250,000 amount at which Obama plans to begin raising tax rates.

"Your new tax plan is going to tax me more, isn't it?" the blue-collar worker asked.

After Obama responded that it would, Wurzelbacher continued: "I've worked hard . . . I work 10 to 12 hours a day and I'm buying this company and I'm going to continue working that way. I'm getting taxed more and more while fulfilling the American Dream."

"It's not that I want to punish your success," Obama told him. "I want to make sure that everybody who is behind you, that they've got a chance for success, too.

Here's my call for your help: can any economists out there please let me know if any "bottom up" theories of monetary policy have ever ended up growing an economy?

Robert Crewse

Ayn Rand in her great book "ATLAS SHRUGGED" described a world in which the rich were penalized by having their wealth taken from them and given to people who "needed it". Ms. Rand was a Russian Jew who left the communism in her homeland and came to America to experience life in a free society where people could rise from poverty by their own hard work and be rewarded for it. The book is antisocialism and anticommunist and should be required reading for everyone in the USA before the election. If Obama is elected it is what we can expect. I'm sure the number of people currently on welfare, the people who need it, will be voting for him since he wants to extend their benefits, or at least he said he wanted to. Maybe he is just buying their votes.

Does Anyone honestly believe if this nut (Obama) get elected, that this plan will actually get implemented by a Nancy Pelosi controlled House without LOWERING that 250K line? Remember Libs truely believe they know better than the rest of us what is good for us.

Reply to jrosher Yep - they worked hard at stealing money from the rest of us. First there was the fake oil supply crisis and now this financial mess. Manipulation of the market and getting rich betting that American companies go out of business is occuring daily. It needs to stop!

Forgive Me everyone, but I am partially responsible for the decline of the market. I took out over $140,000 last week. Obama will be elected and my gut feeling tells me that money will be of little worth. I feel a little crazy for admitting this, but I have invested over $7,000 in wheat, rice, water barrels and other forms of food storage. I plan on preparing my family for a mass panic. I guess my next investment is a USSA t-shirt with Obama's picture on it. This isn't BS. I'm not like Barbara Streisand saying that she'd move to Canada if Bush won, this is for real. I've taken A LOT out and invested it in things that I would consider ridiculous in other situations. One more question. What is my penalty is I remove my 401k as well?

Guy's the leaders of the democratic party understand one thing - if you make more than the minimum wage then you are rich! Another point is the FDIC raising coverage to $250,000. We should get ready because that would indicate that they are about to loose even more of our money in the scams that they are perpetraing on us. And when we eventually demand our money (and we will) - get ready for an even bigger bailout to get it! By then a roll of toilet paper will cost more than the fancy paper the money is made from.

This story and the reaction to it is absolutely rediculous! Obama is not a communist, he is not a socialist, he is not a muslim. Get over it. Stop letting foxnews brainwash you into thinking all of this stuff. Take a look at what a republican president has done to our nation over the last 8 years. And to all that say foxnews is "Fair & Balanced" .. why is it that everytime they have a republican on, they ask the easy questions and are quick to point out any pro's that they can. However when a democrat is on or being discussed its nothing but pointing out the con's. You guys do a horrible job at maintaining the "Fair & Balanced" stance that you swear to uphold at all times.

Unfortunately for Joe the Plumber, he is one of the true Americans who is willing to work to get ahead instead of making excuses to avoide responsibility. There is no free lunch and what Obama promises to give on one hand will be taken away by the other hand (the Democratic run Congress and Senate). There are none so ignorant as those who refuse to open their eyes and see the truth and combined with their own laziness, ignorance and the rush of the liberal news media to stake a claim on their own candidate (except for Fox News), our nation is increasingly becoming a nation of uneducated, lazy and irresponsible citizens, some of whom are actually legal citizens. Our elected officials know the right words to say and promises to make to a citizenry who is more interested in what they can get than what they have earned the right to deserve.

If Obama gets elected we sould go from The United States of America to The Divided Socialist States of America. I really think that if he gets elected it will be the end of the USA as we know it. It has changes so much in the last two months. We are only one step away from being like Europe. It won't be the America I know and love. It will be the America of those hippie azzes from the 60's and 70's. It is all your guys fault. Damn hippies.

Seems like a Robin Hood Government to me. Take from the workers and give to the undeserving. Our government should not even try to take the place of our families and churches. Those unable or unwilling to work are the responsibility of their family with help from their church. Our government is trying to do both responsibililties without success. No one should be punished for working hard and succeding. Further no one should reap any benefits of this great country who is not an elegible citizen. Illegals voting is an outrage. Illegals on welfare is an outrage.

Please explain me one thing. Help me understand. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Income_tax_in_the_United_States#Year_2008_income_brackets_and_tax_rates How come Obama's small business tax plan (tax cuts for incomes below $250k a year) is Marxism and 2008 income tax brackets/rates (as seen in the above url) is NOT? I am single and I am paying more tax than a married guy. Is this not spreading the wealth by your definition? Get to yourselves.

Holy smokes Brian, this one apparently gets the blood boiling. I see where many postings say that they are tired. I agree pushing against an ever increasing block of ignorance is difficult and most times exhausting. I love the one about sharing the cracked and bloody hands, the sweat from the extreme heat, and the 3:00 am alarms. That says everything right there. The principles of a strong America were laid out by one of the greatest communicators to ever live and hold the office of president. Ronald Reagan didn’t just throw platitudes around, he spoke to each and every person about the things that make us great. He honestly believed in the principles of smaller government, lower taxes, top notch education, and free enterprise. He made us realize that we could do anything and didn’t need government to tell us when, where or how to do it. I miss that man. I believe that we can clobber the socialist movement by voting with our thoughts and not our feelings. One of my favorite quotes sums up the way we should vote on November 4th, and that we need to tell our financial institutions thanks but no thanks. “If you see a man approaching you with the obvious intent of doing you good, you should run for your life.” —Henry David Thoreau

Barack Obama is a very dangerous individual. It is time that we all get out and vote in great numbers. This is a wake up call

When will we as Americans finally get it through our heads that unless we have term limits we are never going to get our country back. The same clowns get reelected term after term and totally control everything so nothing gets done. All government agencies except for defense and treasury should be done away with immediately. Why should every dollar we send to Washington be washed through layer after layer of government employees so that 3 cents be returned with stings attached. Make me dictator for three years and I will return this country back to the form our founding fathers meant it to be.No pay for serving in congress,no retirement, or health benefits. Serve a term in office for your country's good, not your own.

If any of our supposedly informed voters had ever bothered to pick up a history book, they just might have seen the parallel between Obama's policies and those of the Progressive Era in our nation's history that contributed to the Great Depression.

Fear will make people accept almost anything as long as it will make them feel safe and comfortable again. Like sheep, they need someone to lead them back into green pastures and promise them all will be good again.

Sullivan said "can any economists out there please let me know if any “bottom up” theories of monetary policy have ever ended up growing an economy?" It was called "The New Deal", my friend, and President Franklin D. Roosevelt brought us out of the great depression.

"Keep all the $$$ you work hard for". Isn't this what those Wall Street investment bankers did? But didn't we want to cap the enormous paychecks and ungodly bonuses they "earned"? According to this logic, why can't they also keep what they "rightly" earned then? Why are we angry at them for being rewarded for what they, too, worked "hard" for? Where do we draw the line then?

I will answer your call with some very simple help. NO theory has ever grown the economy. Theories simply don't grow economies, people do. That may sound too simple but I am very serious when I say that. Most of our economic theories simply don't account for morality AT ALL. They are not theories of people but theories more of the habits of animals. We read darwin then try to force darwin economially on our fellow American neigbors. Humans are more than that. Americans are more than that. You love your theories more than Americans. More than your own kids some of you. People are more than animals-with ambition and innovation (and "purchasing power"). People are people. Pick any religion and go to church. They will teach you why economic theory is not a substitute for the responsibility of any nation's citizen to all citizens.

I own a car dealership that I can still say is profitable. 33 people depend on me so they can make a good living. I kill myself to control expenses and because we make a $250,000 profit I get to share(under the OBAMA plan) with those who have invested no money, blood, sweat or tears. The only people who should share in this profit are the producers who I am greatful to have here. I hate to say it, but layoffs loom if this guy gets in.

Nikita Khrushchev said: “We don’t need to go to war with America. America will destroy itself from within as Communism takes root.” Are there enough people in these United States who will vote to elect Obama? Surely not in the face of everything we know about his socialist ideas and proposals. Will Kruschev's statement be validated? God help us.

My husband & I will fall into the "rich" category, sad thing is: we are so far from rich, we are just comfortable. We sacrificed and worked hard for 20 years to get to where we are today. We were fortunate to send our children to better schools than we did and we have taught our children by showing them how hard we worked and sacrificed time with them when they were younger. We taught them to work just as hard and not to rely on anyone but themselves. Now the government when Obama takes over the POTUS is going to teach our children "Robin Hood was a good man" to steal from the rich to feed the poor. What have we got ourselves into?

I am ashamed and fed up watching this country and it's far left vs far right political wings scheming and trash talking and blaming each other for the political charade we now call government. The banks set this whole mortgage crisis up. AGAIN! Bankers, ex-bankers, politicians and brokers that screwed the pooch in both the 70's and the 90's and are now at it again here in the 2007-8. They held homes in surlus to create THE false demand. Offered junk paper to create a false demand. Then THEY pulled the plug just like they did in the 70s and 90's. Bye bye retirement - By By security! In the meantime you were told to finance beyond your means, you spent freely building their economy, paying thier taxes and so you bought worthless stocks and a few toys - guess who gets them know? The same peoople as the last time. The banks and you're government. Stand in line now.... Stand in line.... Our banks and government as team mates take take take. Companies raise health costs, cut bennies and reorganize to show stockholders false profits while they balance their own salaries, industry by industry. They raise home prices to lower OUR stocks. The lower stocks to take OUR savings and retirements, they raise OUR rents to create a buyers market and then they resell you the home you lost when they took it. What's more they didn't lose a nickel. They get cosing costs, vacancy insurances, monthly payments, down payments and they still hold the paper of the property like they did when you signed. You only tried to buy it, they only meant to rent it to you for extremely high rates and fees. Yup these political groups from federal to city are screwing the pooche and we can't even enjoy the smoke afterwards because they've over taxed tobacco to pay for illnesses caused by non water-soluble pollution like metal, mineral and PVC dust, asbestoes fibers, black powdered munitions and excessive airborne toxins in sprays and chemicals we use in our hands, hair and habitat. What's worse thye have you looking at a few liters of hydrocarbons while they dump pounds of black and glass asbestoes filled rubber and composites into the road around you at over 12,000 mgs every 10 miles or so. 1 SUV 40-50 pounds or more of non-fuel related waste per year. People trees produce more hydrocarbons than cars. PS These people aren't done. They can and will repeat these charades every generation because, "WE THE PEOPLE" follow them like a herd of "Mad Cows" with "hoof and mouth disease" "swatting at our own flies" like the good little Republican and Democrat kool-aid drinkers you are. Heck Palin is probably the first real personm in politics we have seen in years, when she isn't trying to remember obscure party rhetoric while trying to answer questions from some left or right wing news hound looking to find a revealing sound bite. I wonder what I would have said if I was asked in the middle of my first interview, what magazines do you read? Uhhh Ebony...Ughhh Military....Ughhhh Cosmopolitan......Ughhhh Mad Magazine - What else.

I am the wife of a plumber and I have a question.... If we are spreading wealth from plumbers how are we going to spread the cracked and bleeding hands from working in the cold or spread the sweat of the plumber when he is working in high heat... I also would like to spread the alarm clock going off at 3:30 AM to get to work on time.
